Emily Jean (00:00)
Hi everyone and welcome to or welcome back to Founders Club. I'm your host Emily Jean
And I'm so excited because today I'm joined by, I don't like to choose favorites, but Anita Sun of Dermovia. And this is easily one of the better episodes that I recorded during this podcast. from the moment Anita joined the recording, and I say this in the beginning as well, she just is like the brightest light is so clear.
that she has such a passion for what she does. She is incredibly talented, but also so knowledgeable. think it's rare, especially in the skincare We see a lot of people come through who don't have as much of a background to back up the products they're selling. Anita is not like that. She is a passionate medical esthetician. She's a dedicated beautician. And above all, she is really an artist
transformative skin care experiences.
With a mission that goes far beyond profit, Anita crafts products and treatments rooted deeply in purpose, innovation, and heartfelt service. You know, something that I really love about Anita is at the core of her work is this really powerful belief that service is an art form.
You know, it's grounded in passion, responsibility, and transformative impact. You guys will hear in our
conversation that she's
really, really driven and very knowledgeable, but beyond
our own skincare journey, how we can do more for our skin ourselves. She has some great tips for people who are not interested in the product necessarily. She's just the perfect person to have on a podcast like this. Her story's incredible. What's even more amazing to me is everything
we spoke about on this podcast. We still did not even cover so much that she's done. She has an amazing story really from, a rising from the ashes moment. And I'm so excited that we'll be having her back on next season, And she'll be giving us, you know, kind of an update on where she is and we'll get a lot more into that story. But I really do think this is the perfect kind of episode.
to
start with to introduce her and I'm so excited for you guys to hear all about you know her vision for sustainable purpose-driven skincare.
You guys might already know this, but I personally know Dermovia because of their Lace Face Masks for skincare. talking with her, she had a really great insight on how making Lace Face Masks, they're cute, but also they are so much better for your skin. The product is really built to just work for the client in an amazing way. So like I said, I'm so excited for you guys to hear this. And yeah, as always, if you enjoyed

Emily (03:23)
Okay, Anita, welcome to the podcast. Thank you so much for joining us today. I'm so, so excited to have you. Just from the moment you've joined, you have such good energy and I think this is going to be such a good episode. I'm so excited for people to hear about it. But before we really get into it, do you want to kind of introduce yourself in your own words?
Anita (03:43)
Sure. So I'm Anita, founder CEO, but I like myself as really the CIM, which Chief Impact Maker. basically I'm the founder and CEO of Dermovia Solutions.
Emily (04:00)
Mm hmm. Great. And what is Dermovia? Because I know it, but I'm sure a lot of people have seen it on their Instagram too. I don't know if like the name they'll connect it with. what would you say is like number one?
Anita (04:11)
Yes.
first to
I'm not a, you know, an influencer or social media, celebrity, starting a beauty brand.
Emily (04:17)
Right.
Anita (04:19)
when I came up with the brand I was just really thinking of the name being one unique but really just defining like what the products are are doing or that's that I want to achieve right so Dermovia actually means moving through the skin so it's via the dermis
Emily (04:26)
Mm.
Yeah.
Right.
Hmm.
Anita (04:41)
You know, So I want the ingredients to really move into your skin, and to move the skin to any kind of transformation takes your, you know, on a cellular level, it has to be active within the skin. hence, just, you know, I kind of, was the brainstorming was actually for quite some time. But eventually I just thought, you know,
Emily (04:42)
Yeah.
Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm.
Anita (05:04)
It's just moving through the skin. You know, I want it to have an effect on the skin. And so then Dermovia came about.
Emily (05:10)
Right.
Yeah, I love that too. I didn't know that at all, but that's such a powerful way to describe it. it's so actionable and it totally makes sense. And you have incredible skin. So it's like, no surprise.
Anita (05:24)
Thank you Thank you, know as
a yeah and as the medical esthetician especially as a skincare professional and expert your appearance and your skin is on the outside, right? It's visible so you're kind of your own advertisement because you know, it's not like
Emily (05:39)
Right?
Anita (05:41)
when
you're a hairdresser and you like someone's hair, you ask them who did their hair. But if you're an aesthetician, you should be able to work your own skin. Before you can help anyone else, right? Before you can help anyone else, it's like help yourself first. Yeah.
Emily (05:47)
Right.
absolutely.
Mm-hmm, mm-hmm, mm-hmm,
absolutely. Okay, well, in that essence off the bat, then, do you have, like, skin care, like, what's your skin care routine, guess, kind of? Walk me through.
Anita (06:09)
So my skincare routine, I always feel like I want to find solutions.
that really helped me save on time. And, you know, when it's something that has to do with your work, you just you notice, right? Like, my gosh, if I could just do this faster, if I can just get through this, but still achieve the same outcome, you know, like, how do I, you know, how do I achieve that? and I think with my skincare regimen, it's changed over time because, know, I've and
As I advise my own clients and patients, I would tell them, you know, every decade of your life, your lifestyle is gonna change, right? The amount of time you have to prioritize for certain things are always changing. And your regimen needs to fit that, especially your skincare regimen. And I view skincare more from a health perspective.
than even aesthetically. And so right now, currently at 45 years old, my regimen consists of a fast, simple, but effective steps. Like I'm not trying to overdo it. I'm not trying to then not take care of myself at all. But my life has gotten a lot more hectic and busy.
Emily (07:08)
Mm. Right.
Anita (07:30)
with kids, young kids, and just with the business. And so it's really my basic five. So just wash, cleanse your skin, Basically cleanse, soften, or what I call prep, okay? Which is just water hydration. Then I do an active at this decade in my life, you just want a booster.
Emily (07:37)
Okay.
Anita (07:53)
something active, like an active ingredient. It could be a serum. It could just be a, you know, a light moisturizer. you want to, then protect. something that's water-based, oil-based, and, or, or a combo of the two, right for moisture, hydration. and then you want to finish with something that protects the skin in the daytime. It would be some kind of sun, you know, sunscreen.
Emily (08:02)
Right.
Anita (08:16)
And then at night, it could be like a treatment, a scrub or exfoliant or a mask. Just, yeah, a specialty. And then when I say hydrate and moisturize, I also mean like, in that step, you use an eye cream as well or neck cream or hand cream, body cream, anything that is gonna be locking in the moisture.
Emily (08:16)
Mm-hmm.
Yeah.
Got it. I love what you said there about like, you know, maintainability. I think that's a super important key. Especially given there are so many different skincare fads that come up and go in and out constantly. I remember for a while there was like, you need a 12 step skincare routine for glass skin. And I'm a victim of it as well because
Anita (08:46)
Mm-hmm.
Emily (09:05)
For me, I'm like, my gosh, I need to throw out all my old products and get new products and whatever. But I think a lot of people actually most of the time do know what works for them. And at a certain point, it's just kind of sticking with that, taking of course advice from professionals like you, but not getting caught up in these kind of cycles that we see.
Anita (09:09)
Great.
Right, mean a trend is a trend, right? So, it's the newest, and what everyone has, kind of taken up to. But if you think about it, the basics is always what's necessary. Everything else is just excess, you know? And yes, you can do a 12-step regimen, but if I can give you the same results in five steps,
Emily (09:47)
Right.
Anita (09:48)
you know then that's just up to you that's just a preference at that point right so as a clinical expert in skin care i would tailor the treatments and the regimens for my clients based on their own program you know it's not a one size fits all it's not twelve steps and if you use twelve steps then it'll always work on everybody you know and and i just think
Emily (09:52)
Right?
Mm-hmm.
Anita (10:13)
trends are trends and it's, fun. it's, it's interesting, right? It gives you some thing extra to try. But I, I think in skincare, the thing is You got to really see what's going to work for you because just like with anything, if you can't sustain it in your regimen, I'd rather you use the three core steps or five core steps and whatever you can manage.
Emily (10:20)
Mm-hmm.
Anita (10:37)
then not do it at all. And we're all big, we're all guilty of, know, buying, you know, a lot more than what we think we would actually end up using even. Right. And so you, you can get 12 steps or 12 skincare products and, really just the 80 20 rule of apply. use two of, you know, three of the you know, at most maybe four of the 12 items. Right.
Emily (10:48)
Mm-hmm. Right.
Right?
Right.
Anita (11:02)
because it's just not
realistic, And it brings me to think of, sometimes like when I'm really hungry, it just depends on when I go grocery shopping, right? The bill will end up different, you know, vastly different. If I'm grocery shopping while I'm hungry, then, then that receipt is gonna be not expected, right?
Emily (11:10)
Mm-hmm.
Mm-hmm.
Anita (11:23)
And then, but if I'm going right after I'm satisfied and content, right, then I'm really just going to pick up on certain, certain things I need, you know? And I just think it's a spend. It's a, it's where, where you are at in, and if you have more problems and issues with your skin, then you're going to want more product. Right. But if you are satisfied or somewhat content, you know, then.
A lot of people actually end up sticking to what they've always used. that's something that I kind of wanted to educate people on is just that it's just like anything you eat or anything you consume into your body, whether it's medication, whether it's food even.
Emily (12:03)
Mm-hmm.
Mm-hmm.
Anita (12:14)
You can't get everything from one thing, right? Or like, mean, you, you need to at least because your body will naturally adapt and become immune to whatever it is, you know, that you're just, you know, always putting in the same thing. And so, people may not realize, but whatever you put onto your skin, it's called transdermal delivery, right? Moving through the skin, Dermovia.
Emily (12:17)
Right, right.
Hmm.
Anita (12:39)
It actually absorbs into your body and your bloodstream. know, so just then, but that is something that my, lot of my clients have shared with me that like they, sometimes don't even think about it.
Emily (12:42)
Hmm. Right.
Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Even you just saying that now, it's like, yeah, yeah, exactly. I never even. Yeah, it's a great point. I especially love that analogy too about the grocery store. What I'm hearing is I should not be shopping for skincare like the week before my period, probably. That is just a bad time.
Anita (12:53)
And yeah, it's like, drink it, right?
Right, because you're going to write,
you're going to feel like, my gosh, my skin is the worst. You know, it's, but the thing is shop for what you need that will really help you get through that time by controlling the flare ups, by controlling the hormonal changes in your body, you know, but from the outside is how I see skincare. It's just like solutions. There's a lot of different ingredients.
Emily (13:17)
Right?
Mm.
Right.
Anita (13:37)
and a lot of technology now that can really help assist to control, not to fix, not to just eliminate, but just to control it better.
Emily (13:48)
Right. Do you have off the top of your head, and I you just said there's no one size fits all, so it's all right if there is no answer to this, but do you have like three, four products that you're like, listen, if you can do these, it's great. Like for most people, it's gonna work or no.
Anita (14:03)
Definitely. So I actually started your Movia because I felt that I just didn't have time like to really do everything that I needed to do before I ran out the door every morning, you know, to start work. I, I just thought, you know, there's applications that I understand what the skin requires to really boost
Emily (14:05)
Okay.
Anita (14:27)
or what they call like optimize the health, right? So even when you're trying to boost moisture, most serums water-based ingredients will evaporate or will just dry out, right? Dry up within seconds. I would say absorption would probably be at least like a minute or so. But I thought, well, you know what? I want to...
have water hydration on my skin, stays wet, you know, as my skin's drinking it up in the morning while I'm just getting the day going, right? Started. So that's actually how I came up with Lace Your Face, my first premier lace facial masks. It comes in, yeah, eight different formulations.
targeting different skin conditions, not so much skin types, but skin conditions. Because from my professional background, the skin's always changing. And depending on so many external internal factors going on around you, and even in your life, you want to resolve or solve skin conditions, right? Because they could be temporary, like you said, when you're, you know,
going through your menstrual cycle. Like that's not how your skin is all the time, but it's during that time, right? Or if you are traveling a lot, your skin is going to be especially dry, but maybe not always dry, right? So it's conditions that I'm really focused on more so than just your overall skin type, you know? And so when I came out with laser face, I thought, okay, water hydration,
Emily (15:45)
Right.
Mm-hmm.
Anita (15:58)
Your skin needs time to absorb. So even like a sheet mask that's made, that's just serum on paper, you know, or paper towel. How fast does a paper towel dry up versus wet clothes? Right? So, so I made my lace masks with cotton, woven cotton, because it holds hydration.
Emily (16:07)
Yeah.
Anita (16:20)
as a wet application on your skin. And I made, I patented the wearable design. So it hooks onto your ears so that you can actually undergo a full, hydration boosting treatment on your skin for over an hour with it staying wet.
Emily (16:41)
Hmph.
Anita (16:42)
so at the, at the end of the day, I intentionally make every product that Dremovia launches.
based on my professional background of over two decades plus. And I am actually a second generation medical esthetician. My mother, my family came from Asia, immigrated to the States from Taiwan and she was a medical esthetician there and beautician. They had to do it all.
and she was also an entrepreneur, but she owned a, you know, small like a day spa. And I would be there to watch her manually really clean the skin. of her clients and from a very young age, you know, and just seeing the technique. And this was when I was a child. So the advancement now, over the past.
30 years, it's like, it's, it changes the game. So don't settle for mediocre any, like really anything, you know, you want what works and if it makes sense to you. And it really works because it makes sense that it should work better, right. Then then give that a try, you know, instead of just another prettier packaging.
Emily (17:35)
Yeah.
Right.
Yeah.
Anita (17:53)
It's like, but what's in there, you know, and is it going to work and the why it's like, always ask yourself, well, why is it made with, you know, a different material? Like, how does that make it better? Right. Or enhance the performance. so going back to, sorry, what you initially asked. Dermovia offers a three step facial.
Emily (17:54)
Right? Right.
Mm-hmm.
Anita (18:13)
And it's what I use. And I am very, very particular and picky when I developed the system. I intentionally thought, what is going to get me to do? I'm always, you know, doing skin treatments on other people, but what is it going to take for me to actually want to do my own facial on myself?
Emily (18:27)
Mm-hmm.
Anita (18:33)
And I have the craziest, highest level of expectations in skincare. So if I wasn't going to produce and put out something that was going to be super impactful and like life-changing for consumers or for, my clients that can't reach or I don't know yet. I need to know that I'm happy with it.
that that's something I would use myself, you know, because it's that effective. And so my three-step facial consists of my three innovative masks. So one is an exfoliant, but it's a peel-off wearable treatment mask.
Emily (18:55)
Yeah.
Okay.
Anita (19:11)
So the way I developed this was I needed to open the pores. I needed to pull out the blackheads, right? I need to clean the pores, but I need to expose the pores. And how was I going to do that? You know, something like Bure, it's just not strong enough. Okay. And I'm not going to put a glue on my face, right?
Emily (19:28)
Yeah, right.
Right.
Anita (19:32)
So now with science and technology and just that even in nature science, like natural derived science, the ingredients are so powerful that with your Movia's products, you can achieve salon or spa professional treatments at home through demobius products. So the first step is the 20 minute peel paste, a black bamboo charcoal peel paste.
It actually acts as a detox for your skin to suck out and adhere and dry to infuse. as the paste is drying, you wear the Lace Compression Facial Mask over it and it dries and infuses together. And then after 20 minutes, you start from the top and you slowly or more rapidly peel it off.
And it opens up all your pores. It removes blackheads, it removes peach fuzz. It's like a spa grade extraction. Yeah. And the reason why the lace is so important or the gauze, it mimics the gauze that I use in the treatment room is because it infuses together with the paste. So.
It's not like a solid application right? And it won't dry as evenly. But with the netting, everything dries, even in the crevices, the contours of your face. So you can really get the sides of your nose. You can get all of your jawline. It's full face, biorre on steroids.
Emily (20:52)
interesting.
Bye.
Hahaha
Anita (21:03)
Okay, I mean, I wouldn't
say do it every day, know, obviously you don't need that kind of extraction every day, but like a Sonicare toothbrush or, you know, electric toothbrush, it really gives that deep spa like extraction. Then after that is my water hydration, right? The 30 minutes plus, lace your face mask. Pick one formula that fits your skin condition that you, you you're experiencing at the time.
Emily (21:07)
Mm-hmm.
Okay.
Anita (21:28)
and hook it on right after the Lace Appeal, hook on the laser face for 30 minutes. So then now we're at 50 minutes, right, for the facial. 30 minutes and the laser face I made reusable. So it goes through medical grade sterilization, just like all medical gauze and medical products.
Emily (21:37)
Mm-hmm.
Hmm.
Anita (21:47)
It stays anti-microbial if your first application is on clean skin. It stays anti-microbial in the refrigerator for up to 48 hours. So you put it back into the bag, you know, on clean skin, it stays anti-microbial for up to 48 hours or really maybe even longer. know, you just, yeah, you just want to do the second water replenishing treatment a day after.
So within the week, at least two applications. Then the third one is to finish. So after that, you remove it. So now you're boosted with water hydration. And the last step is my waterless dry mask. It's a freeze-dried printed technology of all natural oil-based ingredients that is activated by your body heat, okay?
Emily (22:15)
Okay.
Anita (22:39)
because it's oil based, right? But natural oils, okay? And you hook that on your face for 10 minutes and it acts like a primer for your makeup if you need to wear makeup after. It's oil based, so it's the last step that locks in the hydration of all the step, the water hydration prior. And it will blend your makeup and everything after.
very easily, including sun protection.
Emily (23:06)
my god, I mean, it's like incredible hearing everything. It's like ticks every single box, not to mention this, this like juxtaposition you're sitting on of innovation. And I don't want to say this to discount everything by any means, but on top of it all, like the laser face mask is cute. Like it's like fun to wear. It's pretty.
Anita (23:29)
Well, you know,
I, you know, I, I've volunteered in the hospital and I've, I've helped a lot of, patients who had released severely compromised skin, right? The skin is, the largest organ on our body. but at the same time, people's confidence, people's,
emotions are tied to it, you know, your appearance, right? And, and I just feel like lace is a fabric that symbolizes strength, beauty, you know, and feminine, it's just beautiful, right? and I just want to have that as a symbol of when you put it on, you're feeling good.
Emily (23:50)
Right. Right.
Mmm.
Yeah.
Anita (24:08)
you're going to look amazing, you know? And it's almost like a reminder. It's like, I'd rather wear lace on my face than just like, you know, I'd rather wear lingerie on my face, okay, in the morning and I will feel good. I will feel sexy. I'll feel better, you know, and, and, you know, and, and the thing is, I just think like these little things like details, it so happens to be
Emily (24:09)
Right.
Mm-hmm. It's for you. Yeah.
Anita (24:33)
also what works the best, you know, and it really mimicked the cotton gauze that I used in the clinics, But I just thought, well, why not? You know, it's beautiful. And I will say, I gave myself,
Emily (24:36)
Right.
Anita (24:48)
the harder tasks than they needed to be. Okay, but I was not, I was on a mission to not just settle for what's already out there, you know? And for me, it was like, I had to source the fabric now, I had to source how to sterilize it in medical grade. You know, I had to source like, I mean, every component, it was almost like I just made my mission even harder, you know, than it needed to necessarily be, but the outcome.
Emily (24:55)
Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm.
Anita (25:15)
It just is unbeatable. At least right now, it's been unmatched. You know, but I really developed it with these intentions.
Emily (25:15)
Mm.
Right.
Right, right.
Yeah, I just think it's like, it's amazing. It's clear, I think to even talking about like what lace symbolizes. Thinking back historically, obviously, there's a different way we manufacture lace now, but like it was a very time intensive process. And it is very clear that this is like your heart and soul is 100 % in this. Like you really care. think that is
is really rare to come across in a skincare brand. The time is there, the dedication is there, it shows in the products and in the results beyond that. It's amazing.
Anita (25:59)
And I am just really glad that you pointed that out and that you noticed that because, you know, I'm really my happiest when I am able to help my clients and my patients look and feel their best, you know, like helping them resolve problems in the treatment room,
helping them, just finding solutions that will better, you know, better themselves. Right. And, and I, I, I developed and I created Dremovia for really that sole purpose is that I can help more people. I can really use my expertise to reach more people and, really be of service. Like that's my passion.
Emily (26:34)
Mm-hmm.
Anita (26:44)
is I love what I do. it just so happens that, I also love creating innovative products in this industry that I feel like I just know so much of. And I don't know, maybe because I'm a second generation esthetician, you know, our skincare professional, but I just, it started at a very young age. Yeah.
Emily (26:51)
Mm-hmm.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Right, right.
Was there like a key turning point where you were like, okay, listen, this is something I really want to do. Or did it, you know, kind of happen more naturally?
Anita (27:17)
You know what I would say? It's not so much that I realized that this is what I wanted to do.
It's always just been what I did. You know what I mean? I don't even think I really thought about it. I was just like, I love, you know, I'm like playing with makeup. I'm always, you know, but maybe it's that because my mom is also a medical esthetician, the exposure that you have as a child
Emily (27:31)
Yeah, second nature.
Hmm.
Anita (27:47)
to what your parents are doing, right? Their profession. I think then that exposes you to it as an option early on in life. So then maybe you consider like, maybe that's something, but then you put your own twist to it. You you bring yourself into it, right? As you, as you see what, they're doing with it. But if you feel that like,
Well, I can maybe not do it better, but just do it different, right? I could do it the way I want to, you know, or you just take, become an expert in something totally different than what your parents did. But even if it's in the same work field, right? Or same industry. Yeah.
Emily (28:22)
Right.
Right.
Do you have like, I know this is a big question, but looking at the next five years for demovia, is there, what's kind of the goal? What would you like to see happen? What's the plan here?
Anita (28:40)
I get really excited about just keeping up and researching all the new technology, raw materials, like ingredients, natural ingredients, like science-backed ingredients in skincare, like everything skincare, even from injectables and the metastatics. I do see that in...
Emily (28:49)
Mm.
Anita (29:03)
People are starting to see skincare as more like health care, like skin health. It's not because when, when, when your body's healthy, you feel and look better, right? That's obvious. You know, if it's unhealthy, it doesn't really matter how you mask it. It's unhealthy. Right. And so even if you're like, my gosh, my skin's acne prone. Like my younger clients will, you know, tell me like, my gosh, they're acne prone.
Emily (29:13)
Right. Right. Right.
Anita (29:31)
I'm like, well, stop drying out your acne. No, really, because sal acid, benzoyl peroxide, the old ingredients, they just don't work anymore. There's so much better ingredients now, right? Like doctors are still prescribing the same, know, but they're not really, they don't really care about your aesthetics are not really their priority. They want to make sure that you take the right medication and prescription to just
Emily (29:35)
Right?
Mm.
Right. Right.
Anita (29:57)
you know, rid, you know, whatever it is that you need to, you know, you need to take care of at that moment, right?
Sorry. Yeah, so in that moment and you can't like, you you.
Emily (30:06)
I'm
Anita (30:10)
You can't just count on a doctor to help you resolve something that is, you know, not medically like severe. So I feel like, you know, with my patients, at least I always tell them like, Hey, you know what? Let's look at your diet. Let's look at like your hormones.
Emily (30:30)
Mm-hmm.
Anita (30:32)
Right? Like get your thyroid checked, get your, you know, like, are you, you know, are you working out a lot and are you sweating and letting that bacteria just spread without washing your face right after you work out? You know, like I'm looking at all different factors that would, you know, cause it to be worse, cause the skin to get worse, you know, and not so much just take medicine.
Emily (30:34)
Right.
Anita (30:58)
Right. And especially like traditional, like, like, or the only way, know, is these three ingredients, you know, that's always been prescribed for acne and a lot of, and sometimes it's not even acne. Sometimes it's like dermatitis. Sometimes it's like, you know, an allergy allergic reaction. And so I think there just needs to be more, awareness.
Emily (30:58)
Right.
Right.
Right.
Anita (31:20)
and more research on what's available now, which I love educating people on. And I love developing products that actually, are with the times, right? That's modernized, that's updated, upgraded, you know? And so even Lace Your Face went through, all of my products went through like iterations, like over time, it's evolved with the time. I'm not just gonna...
Emily (31:43)
Mm-hmm.
Anita (31:46)
stick with the same Vaseline bomb, you know, like forever, right? Because things are just available now that they weren't before. So I did the research for everyone. I come out with the best, you know, like what I think is the best solution. we even, we're launching, Dremovia is launching TADs, which, you know, are those micro point, micro point like patches.
Emily (31:49)
Yeah. Yeah.
Yeah, absolutely.
Mm-hmm.
Anita (32:10)
for the skin, but the thing is I'm making it different. I'm making it based on my experience, you know, with what it's supposed to do. And I don't have adhesive throughout the whole patch. Mine is just a thin rim around the border of the patch because all of the actives that will be absorbed into your skin will not contain adhesive. It's not a sticker. You know, it's actually a patch.
Emily (32:11)
cool.
Hmm. Yeah.
Mm.
Okay. Right.
Anita (32:36)
that mimics medical grade patches for wound healing. Because those ingredients will get into your skin and the reason why it's called TADS is because it's Transdermal Active Delivery System.
Emily (32:48)
I'm so excited. Like, I'm like...
Anita (32:50)
No, just think it's about time, honestly, Emily. I think it's about time that as people are getting more discerning with products and even what they're putting into their bodies and on their skin, you really want to...
You really want you want people to trust your brand.
Emily (33:15)
Yeah. Yeah.
Anita (33:16)
It's not
a, let me sell it to all these new customers. And, and, you know, and if it doesn't work and they'd never buy it again, it's okay. I'll just come out with something else, you know? No, no. I want Dermovia to be the place where people who genuinely need to find solutions for their skin through a professional opinion and approach, right. And, really have the option of.
Emily (33:27)
Right.
Mm-hmm, mm-hmm.
Anita (33:42)
you know, going to a brand that they can trust.
Emily (33:45)
Right.
Anita (33:46)
because they can trust that it was made to work.
Emily (33:49)
Mm-hmm. Yeah.
Anita (33:51)
Like I don't care
if you want to try other products and other brands, you know, but if you'd really have a situation or like a condition that other products aren't resolving, like try Dermovia.
You know, and that's really what it is because you have the power of choice to spend your hard earned money on any product. Right. But for me, I want the solution. I want to help you get something that you feel like is worth, you know, worth it.
Emily (34:13)
Yeah, absolutely.
yeah, absolutely. but this kind of revolving door of skincare brands and skincare fads as well, it's like, when did we lose sight of the actual goal? You know, I don't want just something that's gonna look.
pretty on TikTok or Instagram it's in my cupboard, I want something that's gonna work for me.
Anita (34:45)
I always believe that you don't have to compromise one thing for you can achieve a very effective, beautiful product that, satisfies and achieves like the needs of the masses, right? Without having to
Emily (34:50)
Mm.
Mm-hmm.
Anita (35:03)
settle for less, but you got to spend the time to develop it correctly, you can't just rush it. Like my product development stages at least two to five years, but I do think that the trend came in because social media, is
Emily (35:09)
Great.
Anita (35:18)
all visual unless someone is explaining it to you, right? And then people are just like onto the next thing, like bubble mask, you know, there's a lot of sulfates bubbling up on your face, you know, but that's just like putting the worst detergent and having it sit on your face.
it's gonna rip up your face. It's gonna eat away at your protective layer of your skin, you know, but, but it looks super cool. Right. and you can afford to try some cool, innovative, fun, temporary, like visually, you know, interesting skincare products when you're young, you can maybe take a little more risk and, you know, have more fun.
Emily (35:40)
Mm.
Yeah.
Anita (35:57)
Right? But as you get older, can't really afford to take the same kind of risk.
Emily (35:57)
Right.
Yeah, yeah, absolutely.
what has been the most rewarding moment in building Dormophia?
Anita (36:10)
I would say when I attended a trade show back in 2013, when I just launched Lace Your Face and I had one formula, I was still developing the others, but I had my calming chamomile that came out. And it was just the moment
Emily (36:16)
Mm-hmm.
Anita (36:28)
after I talked to one of the, customers she flipped over her business card. It was at the end. I couldn't see her badge. I couldn't see anything. I was just kind of telling her about this full coverage wearable lace, you know, cotton fabric mask, woven mask. And she was just like, oh my gosh, like why, why? You know, and she was like asking me all these questions. And after my whole spiel, she gives me her card.
and launched me in all doors Nordstrom.
she placed the order. We launched in Northroom 2015. So this would be our 10 year anniversary. but.
it was more so that she really understood why I came up with this product. And she felt like the people could use it. Yeah. Benefit from it. And then of course, in 2018, my feature on Shark Tank, that really had to pull to the brand on, a worldwide, at least a national, if not international stage. Yeah.
Emily (37:08)
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah, absolutely. That's a great story. And I love to hear stuff like that, especially too, when you've been working at something. I think that's the biggest thing I hear with entrepreneurs is like, you're working at something for so long. And you have this idea, even if it's not fully formed, it's been in the back of your head for years and years and years. And that moment where you're like, oh my gosh, this is real, like somebody else sees the value here.
Anita (37:25)
yeah.
Emily (37:47)
is on a big level, it's like life-changing. It makes it all worth it, you know?
Anita (37:54)
Yeah.
Emily (37:54)
okay, Best piece of advice for someone starting their skincare journey.
Anita (37:59)
customer as an entrepreneur.
Emily (38:02)
Ooh, let's do both.
Anita (38:04)
as an entrepreneur, would say really just to know the why. like what it is you know, person needs to get out there and like the why, Like
Emily (38:14)
Right.
Anita (38:15)
One, why the product, right? And then two, why they're so passionate about putting it out there.
Emily (38:17)
Mm.
Anita (38:22)
you have to kind of be clear on the why. personally, you know, and like the need, there's so many products out there and it will just get lost in a sea of, you know, products unless the founder knows the why. that's what's
Emily (38:37)
Yeah.
Anita (38:38)
Driven me all these, yeah, this whole time.
Emily (38:39)
Yeah.
start with why, right? Is that what they say? Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm.
Anita (38:42)
Yeah, like, well, why, you know? Why
the lace? Why the cotton? Why the, you know, and you got to be able to answer that. Yeah.
Emily (38:49)
Yeah,
yeah, yeah, absolutely. Well, great, I think that's a great note to wrap up on. Anita, thank you so much for joining me today. It just is like so, it's so great to hear, it's so great to hear entrepreneurs who like really care,
I don't want to say really give a shit, but like really give a shit. Yeah. Yeah. And it's like the product makes a difference and it's, powerful to see it's really empowering. And I, I am, I'm so grateful that you came on. Thank you so much.
Anita (39:26)
You're welcome Emily. And I'm really just so glad that I was able to get more information out there because sometimes, you know, as a skincare professional, it is my passion to also educate my clients, you know, and, and let them think, you know, just, just think about what they're, what they like, what they will really want to achieve with their skin.
Emily (39:39)
Bye.
Anita (39:50)
goals, right? And optimizing the skin's health. Even more than, if your skin is the foundation, you gotta make sure that it's healthy. And then all the makeup can go on it. It's like the canvas, the foundation is healthy.
Emily (40:06)
Right.
Right, 100%. Where can people find you? Where can they find Dermovia?
Anita (40:11)
Yeah.
So our website is Dermovia.com and we are in retail but we're only in retail right now in the states and a couple international distributors but I don't believe we're out in Australia yet.
Emily (40:32)
Hahaha
Anita (40:33)
But yeah, so on our website right now, we are online. We do have some online, you know, channels where people can purchase the products. But if you just want to start off with one simple get to baseline, just get the Lace Your Face mask. My first, you know, innovation. And yeah, everyone can use
Emily (40:50)
Okay.
Okay.
Anita (40:56)
water hydration and it's hypoallergenic. It does not clog your pores, right? Non-comedogenic. And it will help boost the hydration within the hour.
Emily (41:07)
Amazing. I'm gonna go buy 12 as soon as I get off of this. that's right. Okay, great. All right. That's all I need.
Anita (41:11)
Remember they're reusable so you really just need four so the box is for the whole month okay so I did it so that I packaged
it in the actually my recommended program so it's four masks to a box and you use each mask twice that week
Emily (41:24)
Mm-hmm.
Okay.
Okay. All right. I'm pumped. Okay. Great. Well, thank you, Anita. Yeah. my gosh. This is the best time ever.
